Organized labor is beginning to push state legislators to pass state laws protecting workers during organizing campaignsas a response to stalled efforts to pass the Employee Free Choice Act in congress. In Oregon, the state passed the Worker Freedom Act, which prohibits employers from holding "captive audience" meetings. While Oregon is the first state to pass such a law, similar efforts are being considered in Connecticut, Michigan, and Washington, among others.
